Été 1981

Delphine Cauly prefers to define herself as a draftsman rather than an illustrator.
A student at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, drawing became her medium of choice: obsessed with clear lines, Indian ink, and old, yellowed paper.
With “Été 1981” (Summer 1981), Delphine presents her work as a personal mythology, blending intimate impressions and imaginary memories.
More than just a pseudonym, “Été 1981” is a utopia, a race towards the sun, a hedonistic dip in the sea, a quest for the senses with the scent of orange blossom and sunscreen.
Without falling into nostalgic romanticism, her work today combines traditional techniques (pen and ink drawing, graphite, gouache) with digital ones.
