Julien Langendorff

Born in Paris in 1982, visual artist Julien Langendorff has been exhibiting his work in international galleries, art centers and museums since the mid-2000s.
His collage practice, which explores heterogeneous iconography (including erotica, occultism, teen magazines, natural history and religious imagery) in a quest to poetically re-read the world, deploys a symbolist language nourished by dark romanticism, gothic sensibility and punk aesthetics. Tears and creases, the addition of materials and paint, and the manipulation of printed textures are all vehicles of expression and style for this “dandy of the image”, as art theorist Nicolas Bourriaud has defined him, as well as the desire for an artisanal approach in which gesture and even accident play a predominant role.
Julien Langendorff’s strong links with music as an inspiration and environment have led to numerous collaborations in this field (record sleeves, concert posters and music videos for Thurston Moore, Zombie Zombie, Calvi On The Rocks and Rock En Seine), but he has also opened up his field of commissioned work to the press, publishing and fashion.
His works are part of numerous private and public collections, including the agnès b. collection, with which he has presented several solo exhibitions around the world, and that of the Musée des Abattoirs / FRAC Occitanie Toulouse.
